Description of Loosestrife, Purple (Lythrum salicaria):
Purple loosestrife is a plant that's common in wetlands and has purple flowers arranged on a spike at the top of the stems. The leaves are shaped like medieval lances and grow in pairs opposite of each other along the stem. The flowers have 6 petals each. The roots spread extensively and are very woody.
